Bayly Farm house has been in the ownership of the Bayly family since it was built in the early 19th century, while the lands have been farmed by the Bayly family since the late 17th century. Bayly Farm was originally an “outfarm” to the larger Bayly property, now held by Desmond’s brother. Since their marriage. Jackie and Desmond’s farming activities began with beef cattle and then extended to breeding ewes. Tillage, which included sugar beet, is now confined to barley and potatoes. They have also experimented with asparagus and winter raspberries!
Jackie was born in Holland to a Dutch father and English mother. Jackie met Desmond in the early 1970s, when both were working in London for the same research company. They married in 1979 and have been working together since then at Bayly Farm. They have two sons, Michael and Peter, a daughter-in-law Francesca, and since December 2012, have just welcomed the next generation – a granddaughter Maiya.
